CoD Endgame Event

The CoD event on Oct 25th was wonderful up until the last hour. The community deserves to know what the issues were and what I plan to do to fix it.

SITUATION

When planning the event with one of the owners of Endgame, I planned on an "expected" end time of no later than 11pm. This end time was shown on the flyer on our end on our website, on our Facebook event page, in the AZCoDCommunity on Facebook and Endgame had it on their Facebook event page as well.

As many of you know this was our first event at Endgame as they recently opened. A miscommunication between multiple owners of Endgame caused the owner that was on duty at venue at the time to want us out, as less than 48 hours beforehand they had been approved for their liquor license and had rules to apply. A tremendous amount of stress and pressure was on me as a tournament organizer to both make the players happy with what was promised (best of 5) and what the owner on duty wanted due to the miscommunication between owners (everyone out). After an hour of delaying as much as I could, I was forced to make it a best of 3 in grand finals to accommodate.  It was a lose/lose situation.

After putting in 18 hours for the day and everyone was out and the event was over I wanted to just get home and deal with the issue the next few days. Within those following days I spoke with the owner whom we set the event up with to clarify what happened and how to fix it. A statement was given to me to release to you guys:

My name is Mike Goosens, I'm one of the owners of Endgame.  I just wanted to openly state that I think that Frank is a great tournament organizer and that the events from the last CoD tournament that unfolded at the end of the evening was not his fault.  We are a new business with liquor and we have certain policies in place to protect us when it comes to minors.  Unfortunately it affected the tournament and we will strive to never have that happen again.  Thank you all for coming out and supporting us and Frank and AZHP gaming.  Hope to see you again soon.

PRIZES AND PAYMENT

The 1st place winners were paid out at the event and have been taken care of.

We are in the process of getting the size of Gamer Gloves from all the 3rd place winners and shipping them out, as well as getting the gift certificates to Evil Controllers to the 2nd place winners. The 2nd place team that felt cheated from a best of 5 turning into a best of 3 were refunded their entry fee as well.

OVERVIEW

The situation was not handled well by all parties myself included. Although I was under a tremendous amount of stress from multiple parties, the bottom line is everything will always fall on the tournament organizer.

I have given up a tremendous amount of my life to run events for the community with minimal pay, and hardly any appreciation.

I do it for unselfish reasons: You guys as CoD players in the state had nothing for competitive events, and I wanted to provide that experience for you and help people network and grow.

I may not be a perfect tournament organizer, but you all know I do everything I can to provide for you and if there are ever issues, it is my goal to resolve them and make sure they don't happen again.

I'll be changing the way we do these individual events by the format of agreement I have with any venues to ensure this won't happen again.

FINAL WORDS

In all the individual events AZHP Gaming has run for you guys (23 CoD tourneys since June 2013 not including conventions) we have never had this type of this situation before. Don't let 1 rough experience change perspective on everything that AZHP Gaming or we as a community have accomplished.

Stay tuned, as we have a ton of events coming up for you with Advanced Warfare starting with a Microsoft Store Day 0 launch and tournament (4v4) this Sunday night. More details coming on that within the next 24 hours.

The payout for the event includes a $1000 pot as well as prizes for 2nd place.

1st place team - 70% of pot

2nd place team - 30% of pot + custom XB1 glossy white controllers with Pro Buttons A&B provided via Evil Controllers.

-----TOURNAMENT DETAILS-----

Console: XBoxOne

Format: 2v2 Double Elimination (Must lose twice to be eliminated)

Controllers: You may either use one of AZHP's custom controllers with Pro Buttons (set to A and B) via Evil Controllers or you may bring your own. Control paddle mods and trigger stop mods are legal. Rapid fire mods are not legal. Adapters such as the ChronusMax are not legal.

Headsets: We will have a 3.5mm headphone jack coming out of the monitor available for you to plug in any standard headset or headphones in order to hear the game itself. We will not have any mixamps or headsets available. You are allowed to bring your own headsets and mixamp if you choose. It is your own responsibility to make sure you are aware of how the headset system works on LAN/System Link and that you have all needed equipment for a daisy chain.

Profiles: In order for you to get credit for your play, and for commentator purposes during the live stream, we ask you either create a profile on the system you use, or download your profile from XBL. Profile names with any obsene or vulgar references will not be allowed.

Behavior and "Smack Talk":  A bit of smack talk is good for competition, but it needs to be limited. We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for any racist, homophobic, or sexist terms comments towards another player. We have a warning system in place for any personal attack comments. If a referee or tournament organizer hears you making personal attacks towards another player, you will receive a yellow card. If you receive another yellow card during the same series your team will be disqualified for that series and you will be either put in the losers bracket (if match was in winners bracket), or eliminated from the tournament (if match was in losers bracket). After a game is over, you are expected to show good sportsmanship and shake the other team's hand.
Remember, your goal is not only to win, but to network and meet other competitive players so that you can all support each other and grow. Making enemies by acting like a child should not be on your list of goals.

Preperation time: We'll have timers set for your match. When your team is called and you sit down, the timer will be set for 10 minutes. In that 10 minute time period, you are expected to get your controller, headset, and warmup time done and finished. If you are having issues with getting your equipment set up, tell a referee or tournament organizer immediately so we may help you get it set up. You are responsible for your own equipment, do not leave it sitting around, and be sure you have all the necessary cables in order for things to work properly. If the 10 minute timer goes off and you are not ready, it is up to the referee and tournament organizer depending on time constraints on whether you will get another few minutes. If the timer goes off, and you are not ready and have not informed anyone of any issues, your team may have to forfeit the first game. Be prepared and don't waste everyone's time.

CoD eSports is Enabled so we have access to cast/stream. We recommend you do research on what CoD eSports enables/disables before attending.

Game types will include CTF, S&D, and Hardpoint. Specific rules on these game modes will not be known until a week before the event, as things change and updates happen. Maps will either be preset ahead of time depending on what round of the bracket we are in, or we may determine you are allowed a veto system or agreement on maps. Be aware of what maps are played competitively by doing your own research via UMG and MLG rules.

For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us via one of our social media routes (Facebook, Twitter, etc)

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 4v4 Tournament at Jesse James Comics

-----STARTING INFO-----

Easy link to this page to share- http://bit.ly/azhpcod001

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE ASKING US QUESTIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. IF YOU ASK US A QUESTION THAT IS ALREADY ANSWERED, WE'LL GUIDE YOU RIGHT BACK TO THIS PAGE!

We at AZHP Gaming have run 43 Call of Duty tournaments since January of 2013 in 8 cities total spanning 4 different states.

The majority of those have been 2v2s, with a few 3v3s and 4v4s, and they've always been at a relatively low cost of signup.

Now that we are done running the AZ CoD Ranbats v2 2v2 season and sufficient enough people have networked, we can move on to running some 4v4 tournaments for the rest of the year until the release of Black Ops III.

We'll start out with a few high stakes tournaments, run a few more low cost ones, and then do 1 final high states tournament before the release of BlopsIII.

We're welcoming all players from AZ, CA, CO, NM, and NV to come battle against other amateurs in the same area of the US for bragging rights, prizes, and cold hard CASH.

If you're a player from one of these states, talk to your teammates about participating and carpooling with other teams.
If you're a tournament organizer from one of those states, please contact us so we can help get you involved, and help grow your individual community.

For those curious about our previous Ranbat seasons, check out the details below-

-----NEW TO COMMUNITY? FREE AGENT?-----

If you are new to the CoD Community or are a free agent and need help finding other locals who play competitively, here's a suggestion:

Tweet at us @azhpgaming stating you're a free agent and looking for a teammate for our events. Be sure to state what city/state you're in and we'll do our best to network you.

We've also created a free agent list. Contact these individuals on your own to organize scrims/etc in order to form a team. If you are listed as a F/A and no longer are looking for a team, please let us know ASAP so we can take you off the list.

If you're in Arizona, you can also join the Arizona Call of Duty Community on Facebook, although there isn't near as much activity as on Twitter, it's a good resource.

Keep in mind we are not an RT service, so don't tag us unless it's relevant to finding a local teammate for one of our events. We'll help you find a local teammate as we have many followers within the community and will create occasional "free agent tweets" stating Twitter tags of everyone who is a free agent at that time. If you find a teammate, please let us know immediately so we can take you off the list.

----RULES/INFO-----

CoD eSports is Enabled so we have access to cast/stream.
We recommend you do research on what CoD eSports enables/disables before attending.

What details are allowed on a class selection basis will be based on what the community wants from a UMG/MLG standard/variant standpoint.
This can often change depending on game updates and what rules are being run at upcoming major events.

-----TOURNAMENT RULES-----

Console: XBoxOne

Format: 4v4 Double Elimination (Must lose twice to be eliminated), 2/3 Games with respawn game types (S&D/HP/UPLINK) Winners/Losers/Grand Finals are 3/5 Games (S&D/HP/UPLINK)

Maps: Standard competitive (no DLC maps)

Specifics: We as a community unanimously decided to ban the use of what is considered "no bullshit" or what is also unused by pros via a "gentlemen's rule".
This includes the banning of all Shotguns, IMR, LMGs, and OVERKILL. Unless a patch is issued that fixes the balance of these items, they will continue to be banned for this 4v4 and upcoming events as well.

Controllers: You may either use one of AZHP's custom controllers with pro buttons (A & B) via Evil Controllers or you may bring your own. Control paddle mods and/or buttons and trigger stop mods are legal. Rapid fire mods are not legal. Adapters for using another system's controller must be cleared in advance of the event by AZHP Gaming.

Headsets: We will have a limited number of headphones available for use that allow you to hear the game sound via the 3.5mm microphone jack on the back of the monitors. These headsets do not allow communication via any microphone. You're more than welcome to bring your own headsets, but keep in mind it is your own responsibility to make sure you are aware of how the headset system works on LAN/System Link and to have any needed equipment for a daisy chain.

Profiles: For the convenience of the live stream, the commentators, and to give you credit for your performance, we want you to be able to use your alias/gamername at our events. We ask you to either download your existing profile on our systems at the event (please use passkey/password etc), or create a new Microsoft account with your alias/gamername that you can use. Do not attempt to use someone else's account or name while playing as that isn't fair to that individual and there will be a passkey/password anyways.

2015 AZ CoD Community T-Shirts

A lot of the local Arizona Call of Duty Community has requested some type of jersey or shirt to represent the community as a whole for when they attend events, when they attend school, and when they get together with others in the community. It's a great way to show that you are involved, and are aware and knowledgeable about the competitive and eSports aspects of Call of Duty.

For the next 2-3 months, we're offering a 2005 AZ CoD Community shirt customized with your gamer name on the back. Due to the customized nature of these, they can only be pre-ordered and will not likely be offered to purchase after the initial order.

They will be $22 each if picked up in person at an event, and $25 each if you'd like it shipped to your door.

How to order:

Step 1:

Make payment of $22 (or $25 if shipped) to azhpgaming[at]gmail.com via Paypal

If you will pick up your shirt in person at an event and not paying the extra $3 for the shipment of the shirt, you don't need to bother with an address.

Step 2:

Put your gamer name in quotations in the "Add a Note" area. Double and triple check your spelling.

And that's it!

The quicker the community pre-orders 30 shirts, the quicker we can get them printed out. If by December 1st we do not have 30 shirts pre-ordered, we will cancel the order and refund the charges back to your PayPal account.

If you have any questions, please contact us via social media on Twitter @azhpgaming or at our email at azhpgaming[at]gmail.com
